SEA Volunteer Day - LA Kitchen

Our first event of the year will be a hands on site visit to LA Kitchen - a local LA Social Enterprise.

L.A. Kitchen’s mission is to reclaim healthy, local food that would otherwise go to waste, and use it to empower, nourish, and engage the community.

Saturday January 10th, join L.A. Kitchen at St. Vincent Meals on Wheels (StVMoW) this fall to help transform fresh, nutritious, and locally sourced produce into healthy meals for homebound older adults and other vulnerable residents across Los Angeles. Volunteers work alongside culinary trainees in the kitchen to chop fresh vegetables, preparing nutritious produce for use in the 4,000+ meals delivered by StVMoW each day, saving an estimated $50,000 over the course of the pilot.

As a volunteer, you will also help L.A. Kitchen develop innovative new programs. We will test new ideas about intergenerational training, advocacy, nutrition and volunteer engagement, allowing L.A. Kitchen to hit the ground running when we move into a permanent home in 2015.
