what we can do to reignite Economic & Social Prosperity in Greece

ASHOKA, known throughout the world for it's role in cultivating social entrepreneurs, has recently focused their efforts in Greece, a country facing severe economic challenges.

Governmental mis-management and corruption, rampant unemployment, brain drain, and the threat of being kicked out of the EU all contribute to an environment of desperation and hopelessness among many of its citizens.

Given Greece’s unmatched history of artistic and cultural innovation, their contribution to philosophy, government and athletics, and their abundance of beauty and natural resources one wonders what forces are at play in their current situation. How did this happen?

Unfortunately there are no easy answers, but much can be learned by looking at the cultural context- the lens through through which people see the world, the future and their role in it.

This lens not only determines the actions people take but it limits the scope of perceived solutions and opportunities. To create a fundamental shift, the cultural context needs to shift and that is what Ashoka is at work on in Greece and in the world.

How can we look to Greece’s recovery to learn about the power of Social Entrepreneurship and the implication on other struggling economies?

Join us in a panel discussion featuring Lorena Duran, Director of the Ashoka Support Network as well as Ashoka Fellows living and working in Los Angeles. Additional speaker to be announced.
